Police Nab Fifth Suspect in Abia State Armed Robbery Case Targeting University Students.

From TCNEWS

The Abia State Police Command has arrested another suspect linked to a recent spate of armed robberies that have unsettled students and residents around Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU).

According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen C. Chinaka, the latest arrest was made on July 23, 2025, at approximately 9:40 a.m. following an intelligence-led operation by officers of the Uturu Divisional Headquarters.

The suspect, identified as Chukwujekwu Uzoedo, a 26-year-old male from Uduma Ezinnachi in Okigwe, Imo State, was apprehended at his hideout within Abia State. He is believed to be an accomplice in a criminal gang that has been implicated in coordinated robberies targeting ABSU students and surrounding residents.

Uzoedo’s arrest follows an earlier operation on July 17, 2025, in which four other suspects were apprehended in connection with the same case. The police have intensified efforts to dismantle the network behind the crimes.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to his role in the armed robbery operation. Authorities also recovered several stolen items in his possession, including: One HP Laptop, One Tecno Android Phone, One Tecno POP 5, One Itel Android Phone, One Infinix Android Phone, One iPhone 16, One white earpod, One black earpod, and One motorcycle.

The recovered exhibits are believed to be part of the valuables looted from victims during the attacks. The police say investigations are still ongoing to trace and arrest other members of the syndicate still at large.

This development marks a significant step in addressing rising security concerns in the ABSU community and reinforces public trust in law enforcement’s ability to respond swiftly to criminal threats. It also highlights the importance of sustained intelligence-gathering in combating organized crime in the region.

The release further emphasized the commitment of the Abia State Police Command to ensure the safety of residents and students alike, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity promptly.
