The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has made a compelling appeal to young Nigerians to join its ranks and actively participate in nation-building, in a bid to reshape the political landscape and champion youth inclusion in governance.
Speaking during a solidarity visit by a coalition of young professionals in Owerri, Imo State, the State Secretary of the YPP, Rt. Hon. Michael Anyanwu, emphasized the party’s mission to empower the country’s largest voting bloc which is its youth.
“The time has come for Nigerian youths to unite and steer the country toward progressive change,” Anyanwu said. “YPP was established for mentally progressive, innovative young leaders ready to transform governance.”
He described the YPP as a platform designed to amplify young voices, encourage responsible leadership, and promote policies that prioritize education, innovation, and job creation.
Highlighting the party’s policy focus, Anyanwu said YPP is committed to equipping young Nigerians with globally competitive skills through quality education and vocational training. The party also aims to drive job creation, support digital innovation, and expand entrepreneurship opportunities, particularly in underserved communities.
“Our youths are creative, bold, and full of ideas. With the right support, they can solve many of the challenges we face today from unemployment to security,” he added.
The YPP’s message appears to be resonating with a growing number of young citizens in Imo State and beyond, many of whom are frustrated with the status quo and eager for a new era of accountable and people-focused leadership.
As the 2027 general elections draw closer, the party’s grassroots outreach, particularly among first-time voters and young professionals, is gaining traction.
Political analysts note that with over 60% of Nigeria’s population under the age of 35, the youth vote holds the potential to reshape electoral outcomes, especially if galvanized around a common vision.
This development underscores a growing national dialogue around youth participation in politics and governance. With Nigeria’s youth forming the backbone of its population and facing challenges like unemployment and underrepresentation, the YPP’s call marks a critical moment in the country’s democratic evolution.
