A Salute to Unwavering Love: Igbo Vanguard Leader Urges Support for Parents Amid Economic Strain.

From TCNEWS

In celebration of National Parents’ Day, the President General of the Igbo Vanguard Group, Engr. James Nnadozie Uchegbuo, has called for greater recognition and support for parents who continue to sacrifice and nurture their children, despite the rising economic hardship in Nigeria.

Speaking with our correspondent in Umuahia, Abia State, Engr. Uchegbuo emphasized that while many people wish to honor their parents with meaningful gestures, the current economic reality has made such efforts increasingly difficult.

“Most people have heartfelt ideas and plans to show appreciation to their parents, but the struggling economy is stifling those dreams,” he said. “The love of parents for their children is deep, enduring, and immeasurable, it transcends disappointment, heartbreak, and even self-preservation.”

Engr. Uchegbuo described National Parents’ Day as a critical moment to acknowledge the immense, often overlooked, roles that parents play in shaping society. “It is a day that reminds us of their tireless efforts, nurturing, guiding, and supporting us to become who we are,” he added.

National Parents’ Day, celebrated in various countries, is a globally recognized observance dedicated to honouring the contributions and sacrifices of parents. In the United States, the day was officially signed into law in 1994 by President Bill Clinton, following a bill introduced by Senator Trent Lott. The United Nations has also recognized the day as part of its global commitment to family and child welfare.

The celebration serves not only as a tribute but as a call to action, to uplift parents through supportive policies, appreciation campaigns, and stronger family values.

With rapid societal changes, Engr. Uchegbuo pointed out that modern parenting has become even more challenging. “Parents now face relentless pressure, financial, emotional, and psychological yet they continue to give their best,” he noted. “They stay up at night worrying, they go without so their children don’t have to, and they teach us resilience, responsibility, and love.”

“Parents are foundational to any society. Amid growing economic hardship and societal change, their roles have become more demanding than ever”, the message from Engr. Uchegbuo echoes a universal truth: that honouring parents should go beyond words, it should be backed by action.

By spotlighting National Parents’ Day, Uchegbuo’s message highlights a global opportunity to reassess how we support and value the pillars of our families, our parents.

According to him, National Parents’ Day provides a platform to reflect on how society can do more, through public awareness, education, and policy to support families struggling to meet daily needs.
