The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, has reaffirmed the central role of education in shaping the future of children, describing it as “one of the most valuable investments” for individual growth and societal progress.
Engr. Emetu made the remarks during the 2024/2025 graduation ceremony of Meridian Heights International School, held at the school’s campus on Old Timber Road, Low Cost Housing Estate, Umuahia. The event, themed “The Catalysts,” brought together students, parents, teachers, and dignitaries to celebrate the academic achievements of the graduating class.

In his address, the Deputy Governor praised the institution for its unwavering commitment to academic excellence and moral development. “Meridian Heights International School has consistently upheld values that prepare students not just for exams, but for life,” he said. He also commended the graduating students for their hard work, encouraged them to be “catalysts for positive change,” and urged them to channel their education towards community service and leadership.
Highlighting the administration’s ongoing efforts in educational reform, Engr. Emetu emphasized that the government views education as a cornerstone of sustainable development. He expressed optimism that the students would go on to make significant contributions to Abia State’s growth.
Welcoming the Deputy Governor and attendees, Dr. Uduak Akpan, Proprietor and Head of School, thanked the government for its support. He acknowledged the contributions of the school’s teaching and non-teaching staff, attributing the students’ success to their professionalism and dedication. “Our mission has always been to nurture leaders of tomorrow — and today, we witness the fruit of that mission,” Dr. Akpan said.

The event underscores the pivotal role of education in shaping Nigeria’s future, spotlighting the efforts of both government and private institutions to cultivate responsible, educated citizens. It also reflects the growing partnership between state leadership and educational institutions in promoting developmental goals across the region.
As the ceremony climaxed with the symbolic presentation of certificates and awards, parents and students alike reflected on the transformative journey at Meridian Heights. Many described the day as a pivotal moment, both a farewell and a beginning.
