Abia Diaspora Commission Calls on Global Indigenes to Join State’s Rebuilding Effort.

From TCNEWS

The Executive Secretary of the Abia State Diaspora Commission, Rev. Dr. Annie Onu, has called on Abians living abroad to return and invest in the ongoing development of the state, emphasizing that the diaspora community has a critical role to play in the current transformation under Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

Speaking during an official meeting in Umuahia with Ghana-based construction magnate, Engr. Chinedu Harrison Lawrence Orji, Rev. Onu underscored the state government’s dedication to mobilizing diaspora resources, skills, and knowledge for sustainable development.

“There is dignity in labour, and there is pride in building one’s homeland,” Rev. Onu said. “We are inviting Abians across the globe to take part in this new era of progress. Governor Alex Otti has reawakened hope across all sectors,  from agriculture to infrastructure, education to healthcare and the Diaspora Commission is here to facilitate your engagement in this journey.”

She cited the Arochukwu Development Project as a recent example of inclusive growth efforts and highlighted the Commission’s structure, which includes a Chairman and Board Members, all mandated to represent and advance the interests of Abians globally.

In response, Engr. Orji, CEO of Manners Building Construction (Manners King), announced the expansion of his operations to Abia State. Expressing admiration for the state government’s leadership, he said, “The transformation happening here is not just visible but inspiring. That’s why we have launched our new branch in Umuahia. I’m proud to be part of this movement.”

Engr. Orji pledged to promote Abia as a peaceful and investment-friendly state to the broader diaspora community, adding that his commitment reflects a shared vision for a prosperous future.

The meeting highlights a crucial initiative aimed at leveraging diaspora engagement to spur regional development in Nigeria. With many skilled and financially capable Abians living abroad, the Commission’s outreach underscores a growing trend across Africa: turning brain drain into brain gain. It reflects also broader themes of nation-building, homegrown development, and the power of strategic diaspora relations to reshape communities.

The meeting climaxed with a mutual agreement to explore strategic partnerships between the state and diaspora professionals and investors, reaffirming the state government’s resolve to work with its global citizens in rebuilding Abia.
