Abia LG Service Commission Chairman Commends Governor Otti, Urges Commitment from Workers.

From TCNEWS

The Chairman of the Abia State Local Government Service Commission, Elder James Ebere Nwokocha, has commended Governor Alex Otti for what he described as transformative governance and consistent commitment to workers’ welfare across the 17 local government areas in the state.

Speaking during his ongoing assessment tour of local councils, Elder Nwokocha praised the Governor’s consistent payment of salaries and improvements in administrative efficiency. The visit to Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area was one of several stops aimed at evaluating staff morale, infrastructure, and compliance with civil service expectations.

Elder Nwokocha urged the local government workers to remain dedicated and professional in their duties, emphasizing that discipline and diligence are key to building a resilient public service.

However, the Chairman raised concern over the plight of seven staff members in the area who, despite being cleared during the commission’s recent verification exercise, have not yet received their salaries. He assured that the matter would be given prompt attention to ensure no verified staff is left out.

In a show of solidarity, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osisioma Ngwa chapter, Comrade Ujoh Samuel, appealed to the state government for the swift resolution of the issue. He also expressed gratitude for the timely salary payments, noting that workers now receive their wages on the 28th of each month, a practice that has significantly boosted morale.

Comrade Samuel further appealed to the commission to facilitate the prompt payment of outstanding leave allowances, highlighting the importance of comprehensive welfare packages in enhancing productivity.

The visit drew wide commendation from staff and departmental heads, many of whom applauded the transparency and worker-focused policies introduced by the present administration. According to several employees, regular salary disbursement has restored confidence in the system and improved their ability to meet personal and family obligations.

This visit sheds light on ongoing government efforts to reform local administration and uphold employee welfare in Abia State. By spotlighting both achievements and pending issues, it offers a balanced view of public sector governance while emphasizing transparency, accountability, and the value of civil service integrity.

The visit is part of a broader initiative by the Local Government Service Commission to bridge gaps in communication between the workforce and the state government, as well as to identify areas for institutional reform and capacity building.
