Abia Police Command Makes Major Breakthroughs in Crime-Fighting Efforts….Apprehends 245 suspects.

In a determined push to curb criminal activity and bolster public safety, the Abia State Police Command has recorded major victories in crime fighting, including the arrest of over 240 suspects, the rescue of kidnapped and trafficked victims, and the recovery of illegal firearms, vehicles, and illicit substances, according to Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa.

At a press briefing held on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia, CP Danladi Isa disclosed that the command had intensified its security operations between January and June 2025, leading to notable achievements across several local government areas of Abia State.

According to CP Isa, a total of 245 suspects (230 males and 15 females) were apprehended, with several already facing prosecution. The operations led to the rescue of 9 kidnapped victims and 18 trafficked children, in addition to the recovery of a cache of weapons, stolen property, and illicit drugs.

He said that the police arrested Chisom Chikwendu, 35, from Ngor Okpuala, Imo State, in connection with the April 4, 2025 attack on Chinese expatriates in Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA. The ambush claimed the lives of two Chinese nationals and a police escort. The suspect is currently in custody while efforts continue to apprehend other accomplices.

Also, on June 24, 2025, according to him, officers from the Intelligence Response Unit arrested three suspects linked to a kidnapping incident earlier in the month. Those arrested include Eberechi Gift (17), Loveday Confidence (30), and Chukwudi Onyejwu (35). A pump-action gunthree live cartridges, and two expended cartridges were recovered during the operation.

In a coordinated anti-cultism raid in Ahuwa/Umuigu Oboro, Ikwuano LGA, 24 individuals were arrested for unlawful association and illegal possession of arms. The suspects, allegedly linked to a cult group identified as “De Norseman K Club,” were found in possession of a locally made pistolmachetes, and cult insignia. All have been remanded in custody pending trial.

He stated that a disturbing case involving the defilement of a one-year-old girl led to the arrest of 41-year-old Onyebueze Emetu of Ekpiri Ala Ala Community. The suspect reportedly confessed and is set to be charged in court. The child is receiving medical care.

Also, three men, Ali Saidu (27), Yakubu Mohammed (20), and Adamu Isa (27), were apprehended by Operation Crush operatives while allegedly attempting to rustle six cows in Ohiya, Umuahia South LGA. The case is under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The Command recovered a wide variety of items during its operations, including: Firearms: 4 AK-47 rifles, 15 locally made short guns, 2 Ruger rifles, 1 LAR rifle, 1 Scorpion pistol, among others; Ammunition: 347 rounds of various calibers; Vehicles and Transport Items: 4 vehicles, 2 motorcycles, and 3 tricycles; Drugs and Illicit Substances: Bags of suspected cannabis and other controlled substances; and Stolen Items: Gas cylinders, phones, laptops, television sets, industrial tools, cables, and fake wine cartons.

Commissioner Isa reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to security, emphasizing collaboration with other security agencies and the public. He praised the officers for their professionalism and vowed continued vigilance in protecting lives and property across Abia State.
