The Abia State Examination Development Centre has officially announced that the 2025 Mandatory Central Promotion Examination (MCPE) for Senior Secondary 2 (SS2) students will be conducted from 15th to 24th July 2025, across all public and private secondary schools in the state.

In a public announcement released on Thursday, the Director of Exams at the Centre, Mrs. Kanu Ucheoma Peace, emphasized that participation in the examination is compulsory for all SS2 students. The statement warned that students who fail to sit for the MCPE would be ineligible to register or participate in the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) exams.

This directive underscores the Abia State government’s commitment to raising academic standards and ensuring uniformity in student assessment. With WAEC and NECO as major gateways to higher education in Nigeria, compliance with the MCPE is crucial for every SS2 student planning to complete secondary school.

“This examination serves as a critical academic milestone in assessing students’ readiness for their final year in secondary school. Non-compliance will automatically disqualify students from progressing to sit for WAEC or NECO,” the statement read.

The release of the official examination timetable is expected to enable schools and families to make necessary preparations ahead of the assessment period. School administrators and parents are advised to ensure full participation and compliance to avoid future academic disruptions for their wards.

The MCPE is a standardized examination introduced by the Abia State Ministry of Education to streamline academic evaluation at the SS2 level and to ensure that students across both public and private institutions meet minimum educational benchmarks before advancing to their final year.

Educational stakeholders, including principals, school proprietors, and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), have been notified through circulars and direct communication.

A community leader from Ahuwa-Oboro autonomous community in Ikwuano Local Government Area of the state, Engr. James Nnadozie Uchegbuo expressed optimism that additional logistical support for schools in remote areas would be coordinated by the Examination Development Centre to ensure smooth conduct of the exams.
