NYSC Abia Coordinator Urges Corps Members to Embrace Service with Integrity and Purpose
The 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Abia State concluded with a heartfelt call to duty, as the State Coordinator, Barrister Gladys Adama, charged Corps Members to embrace their year of national service with integrity, resilience, and a commitment to national development.
Held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area, the low-key but poignant closing ceremony took place in the early hours of Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 7:00 a.m. The event marked the formal transition of Corps Members from the orientation phase to their primary assignments across communities in Abia State.
Barr. Adama, representing the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General OO Nafiu, reviewed the ceremonial parade and delivered an address underscoring the critical role of Corps Members in community development and nation-building.
“You are not just young Nigerians fulfilling a national mandate. You are leaders in the making, agents of transformation whose contributions can leave lasting impacts in every community you serve,” she stated.
She applauded the Corps Members for their discipline, endurance, and dedication during the three-week orientation program, noting that the skills and values instilled during the camp would serve as a compass throughout their service year.
Emphasizing unity in diversity, the State Coordinator urged the Corps Members to respect and integrate with their host communities, upholding the cultural norms and values of their environments.
“This journey demands your utmost vigilance and integrity. Avoid actions that could compromise your safety, derail your mission, or tarnish the image of the NYSC,” she warned, cautioning against night travel, misconduct, and irresponsible financial behaviour.
Barr. Adama highlighted the importance of the NYSC’s post-camp Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, encouraging participants to deepen the knowledge gained during camp for long-term self-reliance and economic empowerment.
Corps Members were advised to proceed directly to their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) immediately after receiving their posting letters and to notify their Local Government Inspectors before any travel.
The event underscores the role of the NYSC in fostering national unity, youth development, and grassroots transformation in Nigeria. It highlights how structured national programs, like the NYSC, serve as incubators for leadership, civic responsibility, and socio-economic empowerment among Nigerian youth. The speech by Barr. Adama reflects the scheme’s broader mission of channeling youthful energy into nation-building, particularly in states like Abia, where development at the local level is pivotal.
“The NYSC year is more than a service; it is a platform for shaping character, building communities, and laying the groundwork for a better Nigeria,” she further stated.
