Otampa Cultural Festival Planning Gains Momentum at HGF Annual General Meeting.

From TCNEWS

The Harrison Goodness Foundation (HGF), in collaboration with the Otampa Development Union (ODU), held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, focusing on preparations for the highly anticipated 3rd edition of the Otampa Cultural Festival.

The meeting brought together HGF founders, ODU members, and key stakeholders from the community. The session began with an opening prayer led by Deacon Nelson Aghogu, setting a solemn tone for the evening’s deliberations.

Mr. Bosco Oleh, Committee Chairman and holder of the Eze Okonko title, formally welcomed attendees and expressed gratitude for their continuous support. He then invited the HGF Nigeria Coordinator to present an update on the subcommittee’s activities.

A major highlight of the meeting was the Media and Publicity Subcommittee’s detailed proposal for the Otampa Cultural Festival. The proposal, which included programming, logistics, and marketing strategies, was subjected to extensive discussion. Final approval is expected after the ODU’s August general meeting.

In a significant development, Chief Richard Harrison, founder of HGF, announced the foundation’s readiness to fully or partially fund the festival, affirming their commitment irrespective of the ODU’s financial position. “We are ready to take up 100% of the budget, or less, if required. What matters is the success of the event,” Harrison stated.

After evaluating multiple locations, the committee unanimously chose the Otampa Community School as the official venue for the festival. Organizers emphasized the need to ensure value for investment, outlining strategies for cost control and projected returns.

Regarding the traditional wrestling competition, which remains a key attraction of the cultural day, safety emerged as a top priority. The committee resolved to enhance the wrestling arena using sand or protective mats. Participation will be open to all age groups, contingent on medical fitness certification.

The AGM also addressed the cultural investiture of the Committee Chairman as Eze Okonko. Mr. Oleh reported progress in securing endorsement from recognized Okonko groups across various communities in Abia State.

In preparation for the festival, the committee highlighted the need for adequate healthcare services and first aid arrangements on site, ensuring the well-being of all participants and guests.

The Otampa Cultural Festival stands as a celebration of heritage and community spirit in southeastern Nigeria. With strong institutional backing from both the Harrison Goodness Foundation and the Otampa Development Union, the event is poised to strengthen cultural identity, boost local tourism, and foster unity among Otampa indigenes and neighbouring communities.

The meeting concluded at 8:50 PM, following a motion to adjourn by Deacon Aghogu, seconded by Mr. Sunday Uzoigwe. A closing prayer was then delivered by Deacon Aghogu.
