In a colourful and well-attended ceremony, the Rotary Club of Umuahia, District 9142, on Sunday, July 6, 2025, honoured Dr. Inyamah Orji Humphrey, Director of Taxes at the Abia State Ministry of Lands and Housing, with an award for outstanding public service and professional excellence.
The award presentation was part of the Club’s annual presidential installation ceremony held in Umuahia, which saw Rotarian Chidobe Ogbonna formally inaugurated as the Club’s 10th President.
Dr. Humphrey, while expressing gratitude, described the award as particularly meaningful and memorable, given its source, a globally recognized humanitarian organization known for promoting integrity and service above self.
“I feel truly honoured and proud to receive this recognition,” Dr. Humphrey said. “It is an affirmation that dedication to service and professional diligence are noticed and appreciated.”
He also extended warm congratulations to the newly installed President, Rotarian Chidobe Ogbonna, with whom he shares a long-standing friendship that dates back to their days at the University of Calabar in Cross River State.
Offering his goodwill, Dr. Humphrey praised Ogbonna’s leadership qualities and urged him to embrace the responsibilities of his new role with commitment and vision.
“You indeed merit this enviable and commanding position,” he said. “I have no iota of doubt about your leadership and humane capacity to serve in this highly humanitarian organization.”
He wished Ogbonna a successful tenure filled with impactful service, innovation, and expansion for the Rotary Club of Umuahia North and beyond.
The event highlights the importance of celebrating public service excellence and fostering leadership within civic organizations. It also emphasizes the role of professional integrity and long-standing collaboration in community development, especially in a time when good governance and responsible leadership are essential across sectors.
In his inaugural speech, Ogbonna pledged to build upon the legacies of his predecessors by strengthening community outreach and partnerships. He also emphasized the Club’s commitment to humanitarian service, particularly in areas of education, healthcare, and youth development.
The installation ceremony brought together Rotarians, community leaders, public officials, and civil society advocates in a celebration of leadership, service, and community impact. The event also served as a platform for renewing the Club’s commitment to advancing the values of Rotary International.
