FCE Ofeme Provost Inspects Ongoing 72-Room Hostel Project Amid Steady Campus Development.

From TCNEWS

The Provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE) Ofeme, Dr. Titus Sunday Ezeme, Ph.D, conducted an unannounced inspection of the ongoing 72-room hostel construction project on campus, in a demonstration of commitment to infrastructure development and student welfare.

The visit, which took place earlier this week, marks a significant milestone in the college’s rapid transformation from a campaign promise to an operational educational institution serving over 150 students.

The hostel, once completed, will significantly alleviate accommodation challenges faced by the growing student population. It forms part of the broader infrastructural upgrade that includes new lecture halls and administrative buildings, largely credited to the support of the Abia State Government under Governor Alex Chioma Otti.

Speaking during the inspection, Dr. Ezeme expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work but pointed out areas requiring improvement. “I’m quite impressed with the progress so far, but there are a few areas that need adjustments,” he noted. “I would like to engage with the contractor so we can align on expectations and ensure we achieve the intended vision of the Federal Government.”

The Provost also commended the Federal Government for its support and urged continued commitment to the development of the college. “We are grateful for the attention the institution has received and hope for sustained efforts to help us grow and serve our mandate effectively,” Dr. Ezeme added.

The FCE Ofeme was first proposed during the 2023 electioneering period by then governorship candidate, High Chief Ikechi Ememike, Ph.D. Despite not securing the gubernatorial seat, the promise was followed through, ushering in what many now see as a landmark achievement in education development in Abia State.

The event underscores the importance of follow-through on political promises, even in the absence of electoral victory. It also highlights the Federal Government’s and Abia State’s investment in educational infrastructure, which is crucial for expanding access to quality teacher education in Nigeria. The unannounced inspection also sets a tone for accountability and transparency in public projects, aligning with international best practices in institutional governance.

The institution has quickly moved from blueprint to reality, enrolling its first cohort of students and commencing lectures in full stride.
