NOA Urges Collective Action Against Racketeering.

From TCNEWS

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called for collective societal action to eliminate racketeering in both public and private sectors, in a bid to curb unethical practices undermining national development.

Speaking during a media engagement held at the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA) 88.1 FM in Umuahia, the Director of the NOA, Abia State office, Comrade Victor Orji, emphasized the importance of building a value-driven society through ethical conduct, transparency, and institutional reform.

Orji, alongside Deputy Director Ichie Alex Nwaosuagwu, addressed journalists and media professionals as part of a public sensitization effort aimed at raising awareness about the far-reaching implications of racketeering. He noted that the campaign aligns with the agency’s national mandate to instill civic responsibility and promote national integrity.

“Building a healthy and peaceful society is an ongoing process that requires the collective effort of individuals, communities, and institutions,” Orji stated. “It involves fostering a culture grounded in values and ethical standards.”

Racketeering, defined as organized criminal activity that includes bribery, extortion, coercion, and other forms of corruption, remains a major threat to governance, economic stability, and public trust. The NOA warns that such practices damage not only individuals but also societal structures and governance frameworks.

Orji underscored the urgent need for a multi-dimensional approach to tackling the issue. “We must adopt a comprehensive strategy that includes stronger law enforcement, regulatory reforms, community engagement, and social programmes that address root causes such as poverty, inequality, and lack of awareness,” he added.

The NOA’s campaign aims to arouse citizen consciousness, encouraging Nigerians to reject corruption and hold both public and private actors accountable. The agency also urged the media to take an active role in promoting transparency by disseminating accurate information and exposing unethical practices.
